Here's a question...

for all you gay people and pro-gay people out there.

If the whole of the world's population were to turn gay, would that be ok?

And if that happened, wouldn't the human race disappear over the course of one generation?

Ok that was a couple of questions. Sorry about that.

I know there are a lot of intelligent people out there who proudly uphold the cause of gay people, and I want to know if they've thought through this particular (longer term, but albeit relevant) aspect of the whole thing.

So fire away.

Hmm.. never ever thought of such a thing...
and well, I doubt the world will come to an end if all people turned gay.. we have other scientific ways of making babied..:D and don't forget, lots of gay couples try to get their own babies.. or they adopt... they have good parenting skills (so I've read and seen in movies).. and well, they're more sensitive and blah blah..

Honestly I have a lot of things in my head about this.. let me get back when I have time..:)

yup... my GLBT friend, for the most part, want kids.. pretty much more than I do :) so imagine.. if this is the norm... and everyone turns gay... the place might get over crowded! As for the actual details, gay people can be very creative :)

Well, if nature suddenly decided to do so, we can always look to IVR and have our babies.

Gay people too want kids, they are like everyone else, so the need to procreate will not diminish. and through technology will achieve it.

Supposing there was no IVR, well, there are bi-sexuals as well yea?

On a personal note, many religions will bash it saying its unnatural, not god's will ect. I don't have the answers why some prefer same sex and some don't. But to me, it's nature, and if people want to be with and love the same, go ahead. I just wish more people would embrace it, rather than get married and make a mess out of their life and others. (Did you know the book 'Giraya' is about such?)

And whatever anyone teaches you, or thoughts passed down through generations, you should have the freedom to pick it apart, ask questions and disagree too! That is man's curiosity and something like religion should be able to accommodate it, capeesh? :)

I know of a friend of mine (a guy) who grew up alone in a house with his mum, and knows nothing of his father, and naturally (cant blame him) he grew up blindly emulating all that his mom does, her mannerisms her way of thinking etc.

It was fine for his mom to behave the way she did, as it corresponded to her sex i.e Female, but surely it doesnt correspond to his sex i,e male.

Hence, children growing up in an atmosphere where both parents are of the same growth have the tendency to have a misappropriate and imbalanced upbringing...

As lady divine says, a gay couple may be able to attend to the physical needs of the child, but there is nothing they can do to give a balanced psychological growth..which is equally fundamental in the making of a man/woman.,in other words gay parents contribute to the cycle the whackster speaks of.

Tbh I don't think the population would suddenly 'turn' gay. If, however, we were all to evolve such that we're more attracted to our own sex than to the opposite sex...as long as everyone's happy, I'm happy :-). I agree with previous comments that homosexuality and the desire to procreate and nurture a child aren't mutually exclusive.

And I'm afraid I have to disagree with aufidius' analysis. This would imply that every boy brought up by a single mother would be effeminate (which doesn't necessarily mean that they're gay) - and we know this isn't true. The same way, a girl brought up by her father isn't going to become a lesbian. I disagree with the notion that social engineering can influence a person's sexuality.

And Gehan, doesn't it depend on who the girls are (or rather, what they look like)? ;-)

Here goes...the answer to your 1st question. No it wouldn't be ok. The answer to your 2nd question, I don't think the human race would disappear, test tube babies/IVF are ways to bring about babies. But I don’t think it’s the way to go because as someone mentioned in a previous comment it would be detrimental on so many psychological counts.

I hope I have answered your questions, now here’s one for you… IVF still needs a male and a female to make a baby, so don’t you think that gays/lesbians were never meant to be?

From :You know who

@Anonymous - Well if you take on the biological aspect of it i dnt think theres a need for the existence of gays or lesbians,(coz biologically the reproduction process doesn't arise that need)

But that alone cannot be taken into consideration.. so i guess your question is quite open for debate..

hmmm.. i pretty much had this question few months ago... but the problem is those so called people dont understand it..... its just an excuse for them to fulfil their wild desires..

Foxhound said...

I don't think that could happen overnight, but its extremely possible. If that were to happen you can count me out!

Would it be ok? Depends on your view. Would life go on... yes, and would be 'ok' but the minds of some might be crushed!

As for the second the human race wouldn't end. Reproduction can be achieved through other means as so many people have said so before. It doesn't matter if you still need a man and woman to do so.

What's right and wrong, or ok is created in terms of our point of view. So in reality if homosexuality is happening, its happening. Whatever the reason. No one can't say that they were never meant to be.

Like I said in a post I made a while back, it could easily happen in a way where men and women lived with each other to fulfil all basic functions, but had homo love affairs. The truth is anything is possible... no matter how much it scares people.

@Aufidius... what you say is true in terms of mannerisms but not in terms of sexuality.

@ pseudorandom - good point.. but then, if we're going to assume the whole world is gay, why cant we assume all the lesbians are hot?! >:D

I don't believe the 'pro gay' people want a strictly homosexual inhabited world...
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd say they just want queers to be accepted in society...

While I don't agree with Aufidius... His friend reminds me of Ugly Betty's nephew =P

Hey PPL!

Thanks very much for your comments. well i wouldnt say i am an anti-gay-person person. meaning i have nothing against gay people. some of my best friends are gay just like yours.. my question centred on a more of a philosophical point. if being gay is acceptable, surely we must consider the possibility that the whole world could in theory become gay. and that should be acceptable as well yes? so if that acceptable thing happened, how would the human race survive?

we can talk about artificial insemination and technology, but what if desertification and all these other terrible consequences of global warming for instance or another world war happened and disrupted our technology? how could we ensure our species' survival then? for if being completely gay is acceptable, then it should be accceptable for every single member of the population, then in turn, wouldnt it follow that we would feel repulsed to become intimate with someone of the same sex?

wouldnt that mean that our repulsion would trump our desire for kids? im just speculating here..
